Questions and AnswersLaser Hair Removal
What type of laser is used and how does it work?
The Laser and Cosmetic Centre uses the Lightsheer Diode Laser. The laser emits a beam, which is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. It is designed to destroy the hair and within 2-3 weeks, hair that has been damaged by the laser is shedded. As the follicle is disabled, hair regrowth is significantly reduced.
Am I suitable for laser hair removal treatment?
Most people, male and female, are suitable candidates for laser hair removal, although we are unable to treat women during pregnancy or people under 18 years old . You can submit a suitability test to our staff at Laser and Cosmetic Centre online, who will promptly reply to your query.
Who will perform my treatment?
All treatments at the Laser and Cosmetic Centre are performed by registered nurses, with additional treatment specific training in the form of a BTEC Award in Laser and Intense Light Hair Removal.
What does it feel like? Is it Painful?
The feel of the laser on the skin has been described in many different ways. Some say it feels like a pinch on the skin, others say it feels like a rubber band flicking on your skin.
You may also feel a warming sensation as the hair heats up and the treatment begins to work. The specially designed applicator features a cooling device which helps to relieve any discomfort.
Which areas can be treated?
Virtualy any area where you want to get rid of hair. We may not be able to treat the parts of your eyebrows that are very close to your eyes, or hair that is below the eyebrows.
How many treatments will I need?
Hair is continuously changing through three different growth cycles. They actually go through three distinct phases: growing, resting and dying off. The laser treatment works by disabling hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment.
On average, most clients are happy with 6 treatments, however since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all hair follicles in a given area. Treatments are usually given at intervals of 6-8 weeks, depending on the particular area of the body being treated and the density of the hair in that area.
Are there any side effects?
Several minutes after treatment, localised slight swelling and redness may be present in the treated area for up to 8 hours. The treatment area may feel tender or warm, similar to mild sunburn. Side effects can be minimised by avoiding sun exposure for 6 weeks prior to and during treatment.
Can I still remove hair between treatments?
You may shave or use a depilatory cream or trim hairs. However, you should not use waxing, threading or plucking or any method that removes the hair from the follicles.
Line Reduction and Facial Enhancement
How does it work?
Young skin is smooth and elastic and contains a lot of hyaluronic acid that helps the skin look healthy. In the skin hyaluronic acid attracts water; it lifts the skin and makes it firm. As we grow older, the ability of the skin cells to synthesise hyaluronic acid decreases and the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin begins to fall. This in turn leads to wrinkling of the skin. The crystal-clear gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts through a thin needle, after injection the gel binds water and generally remains for many months.
What are the products used?
The Laser and Cosmetic Centre offer a range of products tailoured to suit the individuals requirements. The products are non-animal, crystal-clear gels based on hyaluronic acid. The products are biodegradable, which means that when the gel is broken down it disappears unnoticed from the body.
Is the treatment permanent?
The products are long lasting but not permanent. This means that one always has a choice to continue or change the combination of treatments.
What areas can be treated?
Hyaluronic Acid products are may used for lips, wrinkles, lines and folds.
Possible side effects
After a treatment, some common injection related reactions may occur, such as swelling, redness, discomfort, itching, bruising and tenderness at the injection site. Any reaction is temporary and generally disappears in a day or two or within a week for lip treatment.
What will the consultation cover?
The initial consultation will cover all aspects of the treatment and a medical assessment to determine suitability.

What is Botulinum Toxin?
Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Blostridium botulinum. This bacterium makes several different types of protein which are called type A to type F. These varying proteins cause muscles to relax at different levels.
How does it work?
Our facial expressions change because the muscles in the face contract or relax. |
